A bed that cannot be washed is a bed you will throw away. Before you buy one, and before you put one in the machine, it is worth knowing what that label is actually protecting.
What the label is really saying
Nine times out of ten, "spot clean only" is about the filling, not the fabric. Loose polyester fill migrates and clumps when it gets soaked and tumbled, and it never quite recovers. The cover itself is usually ordinary woven fabric that would wash without complaint.
So check for a zip first
If the cover comes off, wash the cover and spot clean the insert. Cold wash, gentle cycle, no fabric softener - softener coats the fibres and kills the water resistance on anything with a coated backing.
If it does not come off
Vacuum it first, properly, because wet hair turns into felt. Work at the marks with warm water and a little unscented detergent on a cloth, blotting rather than rubbing. Then dry it flat and fully before the dog is back on it; a bed that is damp in the middle will smell worse in a week than it did to start with.
